Building Skills for Everyday Life.
Independence looks different for every individual.
For some, it means living independently. For others, it may mean learning daily living skills while receiving support from family or community programs. The goal is helping each person build the confidence and skills needed to reach their highest level of independence.
Programs may focus on:
OPWDD Self-Direction
Flexible services that allow individuals and families greater choice in planning supports.
Independent Living Centers
Community organizations that promote accessibility, advocacy, and independent living.
ACLD Residential & Community Living
Residential services and community-based supports for adults with developmental disabilities.
Life Skills Programs
Local organizations offering instruction in daily living skills, travel training, and community participation.
Independent living skills can begin developing long before adulthood. Everyday routines at home, school, and in the community provide valuable opportunities to build confidence and independence.
